Hospice and Palliative Care
Where Volunteers Can Serve
Bereavement Volunteers Where Volunteers Can Serve
There are 3 areas where a Samaritan Care Hospice Volunteer can serve. These assignments include:
1. DIRECT CARE
Direct Care Volunteers provide companionship to the patient and respite for the caregiver. Ways to help include:

• Writing letters
• Meal preparation
• Light housekeeping
• Reading to patients
• Running errands
• Hair care
2. BEREAVEMENT
Bereavement Volunteers support families and friends of deceased patients. During the grieving process, the Bereavement Volunteer is an invaluable resource, especially for those who lack a solid support network.
3. SPECIAL SERVICE
Special Service Volunteers help Samaritan Care Hospice staff, often through working in the office. Ways to help include:
• Typing, filing & other light office work
• Sending birthday cards, sympathy cards and bereavement
       notes
• Making deliveries
